First Prototype Testing with Users

In August 2022, a first User Testing of the prototyped Buddy4All App took place in order to find out what already worked well in the concept and which optimization would be needed from the user’s perspective.

Set Up

With a first medium-fidelity prototype, the process and features of onboarding, main dashboard, game scheduling and asking a question were tested in a walkthrough with users.

Five “Elderly” participants were recruited by TERZ foundation and the tests took place on site in Berlingen, Switzerland. The tests with five “Young” participants, recruited by Jugendinitiative Triestingtal, Austria, took place online.

Main findings

The participants showed that the prototype seemed to be easy to use, among others thanks to the step-by-step onboarding process and clear CTA’s (buttons). Some stumbling blocks were uncovered, for example a home button that was hard to find or the app support function that was suspected in the "I help my buddy" feature. It was also possible to identify different desired approaches and expectations regarding the scheduling of the location-based games. All in all, however, both the "Elderly" and the "Young" participants confirmed once again that they really like the idea of connecting cross-generationally.

Next steps

The prototype was further developed according to the findings from the testing. A newly iterated version will now be presented to participants from the two groups "Elderly" and "Youth" again in November 2022 to check the adjustments - and to learn something new again.
